Experience with DP/DR and its relation to alcohol, being self-conscious, and/or sleep disorders?
I'm right there with y'all on this debilitating "condition". I have been struggling with DP/DR (among other things) for over a decade. Does anyone have any information about its relationship to or any personal experience with the following:
DP & ALCOHOL Ever experience RIDICULOUS setbacks after a night of heavy drinking? The psychologist I used to see (who specializes in treating anxiety disorders) said that alcohol has a resetting effect on me. Getting hammered causes a period of feeling exponentially worse for days afterwards (even more detached, that any recent progress has gone down the drain, etc.).
DP & BEING SELF-CONSCIOUS As far as I know, most people are self-conscious about certain things to varying degrees, but I feel like it has become an obsession for me. It's as if it goes hand-in-hand with DP and feeling a complete lack of any sense of self. I can't seem to escape the sensation that I'm being watched or worrying about what other people are thinking and I don't even really know what the anxious thoughts are or how to make them conscious.
DP & SLEEP DISORDERS Obviously, lack of sleep can cause added anxiety, and vice versa, and with DP largely being a side-effect of chronic anxiety, does anyone have experience with sleep disorders and dealing with DP? I have taken multiple sleep tests and have been diagnosed with a few different disorders.
Thank you in advance for any input you may have, whether it be advice, personal experiences, similar questions, etc.
