[EU/UK/NL] Lost Passport. What options do I have?
Hi, Reddit. Sorry, this is a very long post but I'm a deep trouble and had to explain it properly.
I'm an expat living in the Netherlands and I applied for a UK Visa for me and my wife through their website gov.uk. On the website, I received the appointment at their 3rd party agency called TLSContact who collected our passports and sent it to the UK Home Office.
After 2 weeks we received one of the passports and did not receive the other. All 3 parties involved (DHL, UK VI, TLSContact) blame each other and no one is taking responsibility.
I tried contacting each of the party involved several times and
- DHL has been very cooperative and conducted multiple searches and concluded that they never received the second document/passport
- TLSContact responded with a standard copy-paste reply of "check with DHL" and
- UK Home Office also responded with a standard reply of "wait for 10 days" although 10 days have been finished.
The passport also had a US B1 Visa stamped with 8 years remaining. The UK Visa itself cost us about $200 per person and the inquiry line for UK Home office charges $2 per minute and cost us over $30 in multiple calls. The issuance new passport costs us €110 and by the time we get that my wife will be unfit for travel (pregnancy).
All in all, we will lose around $600 in monetary value and a lot of trips to the U.S consulate, home country embassy etc (unaccounted time off from work)
- Can I file a small claims case against the UK Home Office for losing my passport or are they immune to these kinds of claims?
- Can I file a case against TLSContact because they are not responding at all and that agency primarily has to make sure the passport is traveled back and forth safely?
What other advice do you have for me?
