Retroarch with PS4 controller, circle button fast forwards, start button exits the game

So I just started using Retroarch today, and regardless of the game or core I use, the start button always closes Retroarch, and the circle button always toggles turbo game speed. I changed cores, remapped the controls in those cores, and no matter what it is, NES, SNES, GBA, the problem is consistent. I've tried googling it and searching the subreddit, but I couldn't find anything.Any idea what's going on?
