Itinerary for Washington (Seattle, Mt. Rainier NP, etc.) & Oregon (Portland, Crater Lake, etc.)
This is the itinerary I have planned out for my upcoming trip to the PNW. I still have room for change but my flights are booked and cannot be changed.
Please provide your thoughts on anything that seems too jam-packed, too much driving, etc... I am also open to suggestions. Thanks for the help!
In Seattle, we are staying with a friend in the Capitol Hill area.
Fri Aug 25: Arrive in Seattle at 4:40 PM. No real plans for this evening -- would like to do something like see the Great Wheel / get dinner / other suggestions for things that we could see in the evening that aren't too far from home?
Sat Aug 26: The non-negotiable for today is that we are seeing Kings of Leon at the Gorge Amphitheatre which starts at 7PM (but we aren't too worried about getting there right at 7). Am aware that it is a 2.5 hr drive; have been told that it is worth it. With that being said, we will have to leave by 4 PM. Was thinking about doing Bill Spiedel's underground tour in the morning or going to the first Starbuck's?
Sun Aug 27: Pike Place market, Columbia observation deck, and then ferry to Bainbridge Island and explore that area from the afternoon-evening. Do we have any wiggle room on this day? Is the ferry worth it?
Mon Aug 28: Pick up rental car in the morning and drive to North Cascades NP/Ross Lake area and do the Blanca Lakes trail. Given the drive time from Seattle, and the difficulty of the hike, I doubt we will have time/energy for much else. Any suggestions for while we are up in the NC area though? Must-sees?
Tues Aug 29: Get up early and hike at Mt Rainier NP -- Paradise/Skyline Loop? Then leave from there and drive straight to Portland and check into hotel + explore some food options, Powell's book store, Rose Test Garden, or distillery row?
Weds Aug 30: Leave Portland in the morning and drive along the 101, stopping in a few different places for views, food, etc. but ultimately hoping to reach Bandon/Coos Bay by dinner time.
Thurs Aug 31: Crater Lake.
Fri Sept 1: I will be in the Roseburg, OR area so check out a winery or just hang out. Will be visiting family.
Sat Sept 2: Drive back to Portland for 1:29 PM flight.
My biggest questions are whether there is any possible chance we could squeeze something from Olympic NP in if we swapped something else out? Would you move the Portland stop to the tail end of the trip since we are flying out of there? Any other advice on must-do or see things? Thanks!
