Almost Welding Engineer (IWE), questions about the job...

Hey guys, I'm on my final year of engineering and I wanted to become a Welding Engineer. In a 6 month I'll be getting my first 6 month internship to start a job on the field. So here's the question : what's the relationship between welder and WE ? I kinda know my way in welding (mostly SMAW and MIG). Most of the answers I get is that the hardest part is telling an old-timer that is weld is not appropriate. What do you think ? And for the welders, what's your relationship with WE and what is a GOOD WE ?
