Semester Start Common Questions

Hello everyone! Every semester there are posts about things we all have wondered but wanted to know for sure, or ask people that have gone through it.

The purpose of this post is to help people ask and answer some of those questions. Feel free to ask and answer questions in the comments! Let's get a large FAQ going.

I'll provide a few that have been asked many times before.

Q: it still says I owe tuition? Halp!

A: if you received a deferment, you will see the total balance until your financial aid / loans 'take away' the remaining amount. If you paid by other means call the financial aid office right away.

Q: when will I get my loan/grant disbursement?

A: typically that comes the week before or the week after instruction starts. If you don't have any issues (SAP, dismissal, etc) you will nearly always see it the week leading up to the first day of instruction.

Q: are there any clubs worth joining?

A: Absolutely none! Joking aside there is a great deal of clubs on campus and your best bet is to join one for your major, or one for a hobby/interest. The biggest hold up people seem to have over clubs is 'committing' to it. Your participation level is determined by you!

Q: Is parking going to be an issue?

A: yes, always. This fall semester there is a lot of construction going on around the campus entrances. The bus and light rail system is your friend. Also, very safe for anyone new to Sacramento.
