Difference between filetypes?

Hi r/obs,

I use OBS Studio for recording gaming - originally I output in .mp4, but when playing it back in VLC or Premiere Pro, it was incredibly laggy and almost impossible to edit. Under recommendation of some people here, I switched to using .mkv, which is much better, but my editing software (Premiere Pro) doesn't support it, so I have to spend about an hour a video converting it with Handbrake and often it will break somehow.

So, I'm wondering what the best filetype (that supports multiple audio (no flv)) that is editable with Premiere Pro and doesn't have the issues .mp4 does.

I was thinking .mov - any pros/cons to this?

Thanks
