Question: Traditional overhead lighting in a home without light switches
Hello all. Longtime lurker, first time poster... thanks for huge resource of information over the years.
So I rent a "nontraditional" loft space, one with overhead boxes but not a single light switch in the whole place. Up until now I've used Hue and Hue-compatible GE bulbs with a first generation hub that are controlled by a Hue tap and my Alexa. I also have a Harmony setup.
My friend is a lighting designer and I'd like to hang some of his pieces from my ceiling, and while I can wire them up to a box, they would constantly be on. Is there a solution that would allow on/off (and ideally dimming) control that I could wire into the ceiling boxes or somehow hide in the lamps? For a few reasons I can't swap the bulbs themselves, but my ideal would allow the lamps to appear as normal Hue bulbs so I can integrate them into already-established scenes.
Maybe some Zibgee-compatible chip? Maybe some non-traditional solution run from firing commands from the Harmony? I'm techy and not afraid of a soldiering iron but simplicity is always valued.
Would love any advice! Thank you.
