Why I think this season is falling flat for me...

SpoilerGeneral Discussion

This season started off with a killer premiere. The first episode was fantastic and felt exactly like Rick and Morty, but these last three episodes just felt "off". I wasn't divided into either extremes of loving it or hating it, I just felt like something was missing and it was boring. I'm not a critic or a writer or anything so I had no idea why I thought the way I did until I realized what made the show what it is.

From the ground up, the concepts an episode would revolve around were phenomenal. Not only were the writers taking creative, childlike ideas and expanding on them, but they were coming up with crazy shit that I never would have thought about in my entire life. Episodes showed an entire detailed amusement park inside of a human body, a universe inside an inanimate object, a sex toy that fucking gives birth, television from different galaxies, and much more. This was literally the shit I dreamed about! Who hasn't thought about what dogs are thinking or stopping time. Not only were they just taking these ideas, they were fleshing it out to another level and taking a mature look at it. In addition to the base idea of an episode, the side stories and little details were equally as crazy and creative. Summer wasn't just sitting in an armored car, she was sitting in a ship capable of psychological warfare. Morty played a video game of another man's life.

What makes Rick and Morty Rick and Morty was the fact that the creators knew it was a cartoon. They used that to their full advantage. Anything could happen, like killing the Simpsons and cloning them. The writing and character development were just cherries on top. This season just feels like the base idea of an episode is weak. How many more Mad Max parodies can you make. Everyone's already so burnt off superhero movies even making fun of them is boring. Wow, a walking talking pickle, that's just sooooo absurd it's funny.

I'm prolly thinking too deeply into this but it's just what I think. I'd love to hear other ideas, or even why you like this season.
