Improving ride comfort on Skyjacker lift

I put a 4" skyjacker kit on my 97 about two years ago, and while it was very stiff at first I thought it would "break in" a bit and soften up. It is REALLY rough, nearly to the point of being completely uncomfortable on non-perfect roads, and I wanted to see if you folks had any ideas on how to soften it up (my girlfriend thanks you in advance). New softer shocks maybe? Am I screwed?
