[Question] Visiting the States for the first time, any tips?
A few friends and I want to drive down to Oregon to watch the eclipse. We're all pretty young and are probably getting a rental car (other option is to bus). It'll be my first time visiting the States, so I'm wondering about what should I expect at the border. I compiled a few tips I've found from past threads, anything else you would add, especially relating to a first-time visitor? Thanks!
- Prepare for "in-depth grilling" (u/notanotherhour)
- If they ask you about using drugs, don't admit it. If they ask you about being arrested (and you haven't been convicted) don't admit it. (u/EastVanOldMan)
- "If they ask if you have a job, you say yes. If you recently quit or are in between jobs, they will often take that as a seeking work in the USA stance aka, taking work away from an American" (u/redsmurf1)
- When dealing with officials, dazzle them with thoroughness and overwhelm with paperwork (u/skylowr)
- roll down windows , front and back, turn off music, put away phone and look them in the eye with a smile (u/notmyrealnam3)
- "Every fruit or vegetable must be declared to a CBP Agriculture Specialist or CBP Officer and must be presented for inspection - regardless of its admissibility status." - how true is this?
