Anyone have experience on big digs / excavations?

My family has a meadow across the street from our house.

Our 99 year-old neighbor says the power company bought the property in 1954/5, demolished the house that was there, and erected the transmission lines that now exist. The now-demolished house was probably built in the 1880's.

My mom gave me a Bounty Hunter Gold Digger for Christmas. It sat forgotten behind my bedroom door until last week when I finally remembered to use it.

I swept over the location of the demolished home, and dug up a ferrous watering can full of old jars. I thought I wouldn't find more. I quickly ran into a bunch of glass shards, and rusty bits of metal so I moved a few feet away.

I have now excavated about 50 cubic feet of dirt. I am not sure what to make of my results.

I have found old bricks, cement chunks, burned coal, cut animal bones, lots and lots of broken glass (jars, bottles, windows), intact glass bottles and jars, and one metal chain. Oh, and part of the eastern foundation wall.

My best find is either the metal chain--which is not rusted, and may or may not be silver--or, a Whip City Soda bottle, that has a chip at the mouth. Caution: underwhelming photos.

Google search results show that a nice Whip City Soda bottle sold for $11.00 in 2014 on ebay. There were minimal other results. It would seem to be a rare find. What would seem to have been the best bottles are usually broken.

Recently, I have come across several large pieces of iron that are connected, and possibly a barrel.

Looking at the big picture, it seems like a trash pile. I am definitely aware that treasure could be lurking within--maybe some of the bottles I have already found are worth something. I currently have no quick method for sorting the dirt (I at least want to screen for glass before I fill the hole back in), and the whole foundation could easily be 20' x 20', or maybe a bit bigger.

I started out by picking up even the smallest shards of glass and putting them in a bucket. Now, I ignore whole broken bottles. There is also an enormous amount of ferrous metal that is so rusted, I can crush it in my hand. Do I continue the excavation? Is it worth it to end up with dozens of French's mustard jars circa 1950's? What has been the experience of other people in similar situations?
