What kind of ghost kills horses?
The first time I saw it was six months ago when I was cleaning glass off a trail at the stable where I keep and ride my horse, Phoenix. I had just cut my finger when I looked up and saw a silhouette. I could not believe what I was seeing. Despite the fact that I was in a forest, it was sunny and bright and whatever it was should not have looked so dark. It was like a shadow standing about three yards away in the middle of the day. Being the jumpy person that I am, I took off and did not go near there for a few weeks until I decided that what I saw must have been in my head. Phoenix and I walked the first half mile of the trail with no problem, he's extremely well mannered and bombproof, which is why what happened next was so strange, I heard a twig snap and the next thing I know, I'm on the ground watching my horse gallop away from me. I landed face first and was not surprised when I felt blood pouring out of my nose and down my chin. What did surprise me was the shadowy figure standing roughly three yards away from me. Nausea and vertigo kept me from getting up and running away. My head was throbbing and my heart was pounding. What was the thing standing before me? I needed water, I must have hit my head. Those were the only reasonable explanations I could think of. The thing disappeared right when I heard hooves cantering towards the trail and people calling my name. Phoenix must have galloped through the field and to the barn, thank god. I got washed up and went home, confused and disoriented. It was my job to feed the horses the next morning, but when I got there the barn was different. I couldn't put my finger on it until I noticed that Miss. Kay, our pregnant mare who was supposed to be kept in a stall, was not in a stall. I freaked out and looked in the field to see if she was with the other mares. She wasn't. I quickly called Donna, the owner of the barn, and told her that I could not find Kay. That morning quickly turned to chaos as we searched for the mare. We finally found her, stomach cut open, no foal anywhere. She was on the same trail where the shadow figure was. I was horrified and would have been to scared to go back to that trail had it not been for my best friend. Carl, the owner of this account, is an avid lover of the paranormal and begged me to take him to the trail to see what was up and "investigate". I know, dumb idea. Trust me, I regret ever agreeing. Now, of course, the trail was closed off to riders and horses for obvious reasons, but we climbed the fence and begin our trek. We stopped at the area I first saw him, the area I got bucked off, and where we found miss Kay. Carl suddenly gasped as we were walking away.
"What??" I asked him. He pointed up ahead where a small foal was stuck in an old barbed wire fence. Oh my god. I was frozen. It had to be Miss. Kay's missing foal. I was sure it was dead but I un-froze when carl yelled to me that it was still breathing. I called Donna and we rescued the poor foal and called the vet right away. The foal, which we named miracle, is fine now, hence the name, but I am not. I love my barn but I am honestly considering moving my horse to a new one. I'll keep you updated as much as I can. I'm going to ride this afternoon. Wish me luck.
