Was I wrong to ask the neighbors to turn it down?
So for background, our neighbours moved in a few years ago. There's 4 attached houses, they're on the end house beside us. They are very fond of loud parties every week with plenty of karaoke, as well as just playing music often during the week. They always stop before the noise limit time of 11 PM because they have kids, but the bass of their music vibrates our floor and walls, and you can hear it throughout the entire house, even upstairs in the furthest corner of the house. The volume is actually totally fine... It's the bass that is the annoying thumping issue. Today at 2 the husband was home alone and put music on, and the bass was yet again thumping the floor. I went over, for the first time, just to ask him to please "Turn down the music a bit. Just please turn down the bass, it's vibrating the floor, thank you." That's what I said, but instead of turning it down he totally turned it off. Now my mum is saying that I didn't have the right to complain until 11 PM, he won't be happy with us anymore, etc. This from the woman who has been complaining to me every time they have a party.
I literally just wanted the bass turned down, but he doesn't understand English very well. We are quite friendly otherwise, and I didn't want to be rude. But I don't think it's rude to politely ask someone to lower their thumping bass, not my fault if he couldn't understand me! These houses are old with no insulation so I understand that you will hear some noise, but imo it becomes unreasonable when stuff starts to vibrate because of the thumping. I just couldn't take any more freaking thumping, I swear they only play one CD. Any thoughts?
