Cool mother

RAVE

I only discovered this subreddit in the past couple of days, and felt like posting this.

I wanted to have kids when I was younger (am currently 21), but due to a mixture of different things, I realised I would make a pretty terrible father (I wouldn't want to prioritize the child, I'm bad tempered and scary when I shout etc). Add to that the constant horror stories I hear about people regretting having kids, people leaving their entire family from age 17 to 1 on a church doorstep and I'm certain I don't want kids. I do not want to risk regretting their existence.

Anyway, I tell my mum this yesterday (I'd already told her beforehand, this was sort like a confirmation of "I have made my choice") and she doesn't try to bingo me, or tell me how I'll regret it or anything. I think she might be a bit sad that she'll never be a granny (I'm an only child), but she says that's her problem to work through and not mine. I told her if I ever meet anyone I'm interested in (unlikely in the short-term but I'm not ruling it out) I would be honest from the start on how I feel about kids, which I certainly think is important. I realise it'll probably be difficult, considering most people seem to want to have kids at some point in their lives, but it's not something I'm too concerned about at the moment.

TLDR: Told my mum about wanting to be childfree, didn't get bingoed.
