When opening door, door latch doesn't go in far enough to open door every time. Any hacks?

This seems like an odd problem to me. When I turn the door handle, the latch doesn't always go in far enough to open the door. Sometimes it does. Sometimes it doesn't. Any simple hacks for this?

I prefer not to mess with the latch strike plate, and I don't want to remove it for sure.

NOTE: I am not talking about the deadbolt side, but the lower latch side.
