Please help me identify an entity I saw

I have seen flashes of energy and flashes of colorful light that are not migraine aura (that I've been told are angel lights) for the past couple years. Today I saw something that frightened me. I was burning Palo Santo when I saw something smaller than my pinky fingernail, pitch black to the point of being opaque, but not something that seemed solid, that looked like an upside down non serif "u" with pointed, slighted inward curling, ends. It seemed sentient and floated around a bit before I think I got rid of it. What was that? It wasn't an eye disturbance,it actively attempted to get away from the palo santo smoke. I prayed for protection and I lost sight of it, so I performed the lbrp just in case. So what was it, and what should I do if I see it or something like it in the future?
