BEST Assassins Creed game?

Im thinking about getting assassins creed. I have never played any of them before so I want to know which one you folks think is the best or maybe the top 3. So I dont waste my money on one that might have been a disappointment. Thanks. (I have been reading articles about them from game critiques but I don't really trust their judgement because most of the time they are misleading.)
