There is a lot of literature on helping parents of trans kids to understand their children. How can I understand better my parents?

They are trying to understand but they are finding it really difficult to shift their perception of me as I transition. I have been angry about bigotry and transphobia and all that, but it's been blinding me, and today I realized if we're going to have a relationship, I need to start thinking about how they feel, too.

What about having a trans kid is so difficult, even for well-meaning parents? How can I better understand their perspective to help them through the process?
