[QUESTION] What are good specs for a laptop for an upper beginner?
Hey WATMM! I have a few questions.
I'm at a bit of an impasse. I want to get a decent laptop for music production and video editing. I am mostly a beginner at this, but I want to keep trying to progress in my skills. I know a desktop is ideal with good monitors, and I have been researching for parts to build one. Which is a plan of mine for the end of the year. But, I want to buy a laptop for a couple of reasons:
-
I am usually out the house a majority of the week for work. Plus, after work I usually go to the local cafe to wait out rush hour and get work done. I have some good over the ear headphones that I use when I try to mix things.
-
The laptop I have now is pretty much on its last legs. I need a new one, since the screen is dead, I have it hooked up to a monitor at home. But, for anything portable wise, its useless. So, I figured when I would get a new laptop. I would get one with the ability to run some programs.
I have only the basics. Which are: Reaper/Pre-sonus Studio One, Presonus VSL 22 audio interface, Some basic free VSTs/amplitube 3 and 4, and toontrack ez drummer.
During my research I found things that are necessary to run these programs smoothly are:
- i7 quad core processor
- 8gb of RAM or more
- ssd 256 or more
Budget is about 500-700 USD I could go over, but I would really like to keep it around this price
The instruments I usually record are guitar/bass/midi drums/vocals and keyboard. I haven't had more than 20ish tracks on a song. If there is any recommendations or suggestions I would like to hear them or can anyone point me in the right direction? I asked r/SuggestALaptop which I got suggested this laptop [Acer vx5] (https://www.amazon.com/Acer-Aspire-Gaming-GeForce-VX5-591G-5652/dp/B01N11JKA3/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&linkCode=ll1&tag=lonerim2-20&linkId=e4ceabc29913d83fc33d43c85f9cc749)
