Working and Grad School Intentionally?

I was wondering if any Americans here have worked internationally (as in lived for at least a year) or got a masters/doctorate overseas. What was the experience like? Would you recommend doing it? Are there any hurdles to going to graduate school as an international? How is the cost (or pay if doctorate) compare to American universities? How was the quality of education and language gap?
