dual monitor mount and an ikea table top... what can i use to better support the mount so that my desk isn't ruined?

My problem is, since my ikea desk top is not solid wood, what should i use to better support the mount so that my desk isn't ruined? I've heard horror stories on PCMR of ikea desk tops being ruined because of poor mounting of monitor arms.

I am thinking of going to Lowe's or Home Depot today and getting some 2x4s or something smaller possibly to put underneath and on top of my desk so that my monitor mount has more thickness to grab onto. Any suggestions for something better and/or easier would be greatly appreciated.
