[Discussion] Still no link between Pokémon Go and Sun/Moon?

Apologies if this was answered already or if I'm unaware of something they've added in. I was under the impression that Pokémon go would have some kind of link/functionality with sun/moon, but I have yet to see something that resembles that. I heard people datamined that they were going to add ability to transfer Pokémon, but that was many months ago. Has there been any progress or updates? Have they given up? Am I living under a rock and missing something?

I think it would be a really cool feature and give more incentive to play Pokémon go even when there's not a special event on. There's some common Pokémon in PoGo that don't mean much anymore, but they would have added meaning if I could use them to play as an "unobtainable" Pokémon in sun/moon. Endless nidorans in the city would be more exciting if it meant I could work towards a nidoking in my DS game, for example.
