There's a lot of choir-preaching going on right now in this sub

A lot of people are assuming "liberals" as a whole (a label that is not interrogated nearly enough) all hold certain beliefs about fascism, and that the tragedy in Charlottesville is some kind of sword through the heart of those arguments and that we've been proven absolutely right. I think it's important to consider that acts of mass violence like this are very hard to predict and even harder to factor into what paths we should take in the future. While I wholeheartedly believe in street level, confrontational antifascism, it's a huge stretch to say stuff like "hey stupid liberal, obviously more violence would have prevented this". Like, bashing the fash is great and all and all but try to look at things with a nuanced view and not just lean on boilerplate slogans because they feel right. I don't pretend to know what to do, but the one thing we know for certain is that this has exposed the alt-right for what they really are, and the scale of the beautiful solidarity actions in the USA and even around the world are evidence that people will still get in the street and mobilize when they clearly see the depravity of the enemy. There is going to be momentum now, and we have to be very careful that we don't squander it.
