Smell return post polyp surgery?

Hi all. My sense of smell has been largely gone due to sinus polyps the past few years. It returned when I was given oral steroids, but the side effects were so bad I could not continue. Aside from that, it sometimes seems to briefly come back after exercise or if I take anti inflammatory meds like Advil. Saline sinus washes and Flonase don't seem to help all that much, but on occasion do. Afrin seemed to bring it back for a few hours (I know not to use that product often). Anyone ever experience something similar and try the surgery? I'm now guessing it is "congestion" related.
