Unclear pattern instruction: attaching skirt to waistband [Pattern Question]

Hello,

My pattern has instructed me to attach the skirt piece to the waistband. I did so, attaching 1/8 of the skirt piece to the bottom 1/8 of the waistband. It then occurred me to I should have attached more skirt piece to the waistband, but the pattern did not specify how much. There is to be a piece of elastic running through the waistband. What should I do? Have I done it correctly already, or do I need to re-do it in some other way? Thank you.
