Traffic Reckless Driving Advice

I am 20 years old and was involved in a car accident where I was charged with reckless driving. This was very unfortunate timing as I had just gotten a new car, and I was about to leave for college the next day, leaving me very frustrated. It was my mistake and while trying to navigate directions while being blinded by the sun, I somehow missed a light. I had no intent of running a red light. I am trying to figure out what to say in court to get my charge lowered so it will not reflect as harshly on my license. Any advice would be much appreciated.
