Advice Please - JNAunt Ramping Up!

Advice, Please?

So I posted once early last month re: the 4th of july trip from hell. I got some good advice, and have unfortunately only just started making moves towards the therapy/legal bits. Warning, this is another REALLY FUCKING LONG ONE. Question I need advice on is at the bottom.

TLDR; Blocked my aunt in a fit of rage after some texts that made me feel like she was treating me like a child, with little consideration for me. She has realized and has escalated. Called my place of work today. What are my next moves?

I am here because in a fit of anger/upset/over-it-ness I just..blocked her. I blocked her with no warning, and she has figured it out, and upped the game.

Now, my last post a lot of people were saying me just ghosting her is not me confronting any of it, and they are totally right. But I was just...ugh! I don't know how to describe it, so let me start at the beginning:

Hadn't really talked to Aunt since July 4th. She knew DH was mad, probably suspected I was mad too. But w/e. I live so far away and we talk so infrequently it didn't mean anything to me. DH and I, on the other hand, spoke in great length about that stay and what our plans were. And honestly, making the decision to not have her in my life at all was such a tremendous relief...I took that as a sign I was doing the right thing. Of course there was guilt the first night...but I was just over it. So what led to this was a series of text messages that got me more and more pissed off until I just snapped.

Aug 3 - anniversary of my mom's death (her sister). I get a text in the middle of the day (while I am at work) about how the day is hard, and she’s just checking up on me, how am I handling things, etc. Now...this irrationally pissed me off (I recognize I was irrational), but like...I am mostly handling my mom's death pretty well. It isn't a big part of my life anymore...it's been over 3 years. I honestly didn't realize it was the day until I got that text message and it just...set me off. Middle of my work day, I am in a meeting, and just see a handful of texts at like 11:45. Like...why couldn't I get a short text in the morning or after work, when I wasn't surrounded by people, doing my thing. Totally on me for feeling that way, but it just hit me with a wave of sadness as I was in the middle of PRESENTING a fucking training. I had to take 2 min to regroup myself...I just felt like it was a little inconsiderate. So I decided...I would text her tomorrow. Let myself cool off/mourn/do whatever for the day.

Aug 4 - Well, before I even get into work the next day I get an angry text from her "would have liked a response!! [insert three angry faces here]”

So this just reignited my indignant spark. 1) It was the anniversary of my mom's death. Did anyone consider maybe I don't want to be bothered with tons of texts, or reminded of it, or talk about my mom all night?!?! My mom is literally the OBSESSION of my family. Everything they do, everywhere they go, all the things they see is about how my mom liked it, would have liked it, had a memory there, etc. Like...it's just too much for me. I haven't moved on per se, but I have continued living. My family doesn't really seem to have done that.

Anyways, back to what I was saying 1) what if I didn't want to be bothered on that day and wanted to mourn by myself? 2) It was literally less than a day before I had wanted to respond. I am not dropping everything to respond to you on YOUR time frame to make YOU feel better (because let’s face it, that's really what the text was about. Me making HER feel better on the day my mom died). And 3) don't talk to me like I am a child that should be admonished...I am an adult with my own life. If you don't like how I handled something, maybe instead of getting angry and putting me down, a quick little "bummer I didn't get to hear from you yesterday. Would love to catch up sometime soon" would have been INFINITELY better and more respectful.

So I extended the response day out AGAIN and decided I would text her on the 5th instead after I cooled out.

Aug 5 - In the middle of all this, I am getting phone calls, more than I normally would, from her. I ignore them. I know its just going to be her yelling at me like she has any fucking right. I work myself up into a tizzy. Still ignoring her.

Mid afternoon Saturday, Aug 5 I get a text about not being able to leave a VM (not entirely sure what’s up with that, but w/e my VM has acted up in the past so...even better for me!). And how she wants to know why I am not responding, she wants to know I am okay.

Now, I know I shouldn't have gotten riled up AGAIN but I feel like I was just raw and sensitive and she kept poking that same spot. But that just irks me…what do you mean you want to know if I am okay? Like…it’s been 2 days. I am an ADULT with a life and a HUSBAND. If I wasn’t okay, my HUSBAND would be the first to know. And he’d be letting my family know. Also, It’s been TWO FUCKING DAYS. Work days, might I add. She knows I commute almost 2 hours each way to work. Sometimes I just can’t be fucking bothered and will get to it on the weekend. Not to mention there are plenty of times where we go weeks or months without talking, and she doesn’t worry about me then. But because I didn’t drop everything to respond, something MUST be wrong. Ugh. Finally…its not HER place to do the finding. I am not some errant kid, or a truant teen. I am an adult, with a husband. He is the first, and will always be the first, to find me or figure out if something is wrong, etc. After that would be my mom, but guess what, I am not replacing that spot with my aunt. My aunt is just my aunt...forever. Since getting married, my family is now officially extended family. My nuclear family is DH, myself, and any children we choose to have.

Decide not to respond one more time because how fucking dare she. I will reach out to her when I want. The rest of the weekend is uneventful, some more missed calls, no more texts, w/e.

Then Monday night comes. Monday, Aug 7 – “I am very worried about you. I have been trying to get in touch with you since the 3rd. If I don’t hear from you I am going to call your office to make sure you’re not dead somewhere. Call me back.”

I saw red. I AM NOT A FUCKING CHILD YOU HAVE TO CHECK UP ON. I HAVE MY OWN DAMN SCHEDULE AND IT USUALLY DOESN’T INCLUDE YOU. Also…threatening to call my place of work? Are you fucking kidding me? I am a Supervisor at a big company, I hold a very good job, having my family calling to check up on me could look really bad. Besides…who threatens that?!?! I recognize, I am probably still sore about this spot because on the July 4th trip she told me she will never see me as anything other than a child, and she is the adult/elder in my life now, so she has to put her foot down or guide me where I am wrong. Just…no. And that command at the end "call me back." Not a please, not a request. A command. FUCK YOU.

So that was it, I had it. I was stewing on it all day. I immediately went to reception, and gave them a list of people that were harassing me and they might try to call. I went to my manager and told her briefly what was going on, and that if someone somehow got directed to her, please don’t forward to me. Everyone was very understanding and on my side. That night, I blocked my aunt and everyone I thought she would use as an FM.

The relief was…omg. I can’t even describe it. I felt guilty, because I never gave her a heads up, but mostly I was just like…omg that part of my life is over. Thank god. And honestly, we had gone SO much longer before without talking…not until she needed something. So I didn’t feel like it was THAT bad.

Now, here we are, 2 weeks later. And I get a message from reception that my aunt is on the line. I reiterate that I don’t want her sent to me, and reception takes care of it. But I’ve had it. I was actually considering, after 2 weeks, to lift the block and finally reach out…but I know what kind of conversation that would be. Yelling, and “putting her foot down” that I can’t do that, etc etc. As if I don’t have my own volition or choice of my own. But now that she is actively trying to contact my work, I am done feeling guilty. Who escalates like that? I mean seriously.

Oh and mind you…she is Facebook OBSESSED. Always on. I have it, but don’t really use it. Though I use the messenger. She is not blocked on FB. But I have not had any communication from her there. She hasn’t tried to tag me, or PM me or anything. No normal method of reaching out besides a couple of texts. It just went straight from those texts, to shotgun blast calls for weeks, to calling my work to see if I am alive. The escalation is serious.

So my question is…what do I do? I am looking into finding a therapist under my employee assistance program, but I pretty much have to do the heavy lifting in finding them…so its taking some time (especially considering my schedule restraints). Do I take the time to unblock her and tell me to stop bothering me for the time being, I will reach out when I am ready? Do I get my therapist involved? Or a lawyer (was already planning to see one for some other reasons regarding my husband and my aunt’s insinuation that he is just like all other middle eastern men. Whatever the fuck that means)?

Do I have my husband call her and tell her to back off, this is MY choice and she will hear from me when I am ready? He’s already offered…seriously he takes no shit. But idk. How do I handle it without putting myself in the line of fire again?
