Why doesn't everyone use the kind of security software used by banks & credit card companies?

I keep hearing and reading about various organizations/companies' computers being hacked, information stolen, blackmailing, identify theft, etc. Yet I've never heard of my bank or a large credit card corporation being hacked. These financial organizations keep track of countless transactions amounting to billions of dollars, yet they're not hacked. They must have software or some kind of security system which prevents this, right? If that's the case, why isn't everyone using it?
