iPhone 8 Status Bar

So we have a pretty good idea of how iOS is going to adapt to the iPhone 8, but the one thing that still seems to be unclear is how the status bar will work. I'm pretty confident they're gonna go with the blacked out look to make the display look rectangular, but the question of how everything fits onto the sides is still unanswered.

By getting rid of the carrier name and shrinking the signal bars, the stuff on the left should fit without a problem. But what about all those icons on the right? And what about the clock? Are they going to hide away some of this information? Still need a status bar space at the top of the main UI? Customizable status bar? I haven't yet seen any ideas that feel like they aren't mediocre design compromises.
