Looking to gift a new driver/fix old driver for a good friend...

My golfing buddy has been using a Miz Blue Rage driver since I've known him (8-9 yrs)... long story short the shaft has been splitting slowly for the last two years, but he launches bombs with it...270-280 no problem (we call them ICBMs). He's always been a hard worker, and I know we won't pony up for a newer one. I'm not against buying used... just where should I start? I know it's 10 degree and stiff shaft... he's hit my R1 and wasn't to happy with it. Suggestions? Re shaft or just replace?
