Never want to speak with my (F30) husband's (M31) family again
My husband and I are high school sweethearts. And I hate his family. It isn't because of somethin big, like abuse or a huge falling out. But it has been a constant drip drip drip of things to the point I told my husband I think we should seperate, he thinks we shouldn't talk to his family.
Essentially they are Trump people. Police officers and conservatives. And I feel like we have zero in common. I am left leaning and love new experiences. They make fun of art and like to only eat at old town buffet. They make fun of trans people, or say things like black people are the violent ones in police confrontations.
While there isn't anything "wrong" with the way they live their life, they have consistently treated me badly for not bowing down to their way of doing things. I also hate, how they never call out a family member that is an asshole, or one that always lies. They over look bad behavior but treat me bad because I don't love the same things they do (not inviting me to functions, excluding me from activities, talking behind my back about my character, my fertility/ability to have kids, etc).
My husband isn't like his family, but he is close to some of them. He talks with them every day. It is like a dagger everytime he talks with them. These people that hate me, but he is laughing and having fun with.
I just can't do it anymore. I don't want to be the wife that tells him he can't be with his family. They would have a field day with drama over that and call me the bitch ripping a family apart ect. But it hurts so much and I resent my husband for letting them do this for so long.
I suggested we go our ways, not because I don't love him, but because it is seriously affecting my mental health to where I have thoughts of wanting to hurt myself and like I can't do anything right. He just wants to cut contact with them, but I don't know if I could handle the heat from that.
I feel really depressed and don't know what to do.
