My (26 F) bf (28 M) of 2 years broke up with me. Should I write a letter to him for closure?

Breakups

I didn't want to have a super long title, so sorry if it was confusing.

This is a really tough break up. His parents are going through a rough divorce and it's really wearing on us. His mom is talking shit about his dad to him, his dad is talking shit about his mom to him. His dad is dating his mom's friend of 20 years.. He's trying to focus on his business. Lots of stuff.

I've tried to be supportive, but I think this is family stuff they have to work out. He's bottling a lot of stuff up and trying to get him to talk is like pulling teeth. He's seeing a therapist, so that's good.

One day after a session he came home and broke up with me.

I've tried saying, "I understand you're going through a lot. I'll move in with a friend (this weekend). I don't think we need to end what we have."

He's pretty instant on it. He's "made up his mind". If he's "made a mistake" he'll "deal with it when I realize it".

The above was said this morning and I can't convey how much this hurts. I always thought a "broken heart" was something stupid people said in songs, but you literally feel something in your chest when something like that is said.

I told him I'm going to move out of state. It would hurt too much to stay here... we are from the small town. He's extremely supportive and tells me how excited he is for me to go to the job interviews coming up.

I'm happy for his support, but also very hurt. Yes, it is childish, I know... But I was hoping he would realize that he wants to be with me?

He said to stop grasping at things and just move out... That this is all hard on him.

I still have so much to say to him.

  • I'm sorry if I leaned on you too much about my fucked up family. That was not your place.

  • I appreciate you taking me in when I needed it most

  • I appreciate the financial help when I needed it.

  • I had so much fun with you.

  • I wish you the best

  • Thank you for showing me how to get out of the abusive situation I was in

tl;dr: Bf broke up with me. He's going through a lot. I'm moving out, it's been tough on him and I think he's overwhelmed. I don't think he needs to throw us away. He's pretty sure about it. I want to write a letter to him for closure, but I'm not sure if I've done too much damage already
