Spraying coolant from radiator cap.
Hi all,
My 91 decided to spray a bunch of coolant from what i'm assuming was the radiator cap today while I was in the grocery store. It's about 94 degrees today and I had the AC on before I got there. While sitting in traffic I might've hit about 230* which is about how it's always run in traffic in hot ambient temps. My e-fan works fine, kicking on when the AC runs as well as right around 220-230.
After seeing the puddle under the driver's side I popped the hood and found coolant sprayed around the cap. It was on the hood blanket above the cap, on the front of the airbox, and around where the hood latches. I got it home and popped the cap after it cooled off, and the coolant looks good:
I don't know what that rough plastic piece is in there, but it's attached, not just floating.
I do see a tiny drip here in the next picture, but I'm not sure if this is just from coolant dripping off the bottom of the cap while taking it off:
I put the cap back on and ran it for about 30 minutes in the driveway with absolutely no issue. The hose coming from the t-stat is hot so I'm assuming that is working. The reservoir is bubbling so I'm assuming fluid is making its way there. I did notice that the cap was "upside down" so that the warnings were rotated 180*, but that shouldn't matter, right?
Is there something I'm missing here? I really don't want to risk overheating and have really bad issues.
Thanks
