Never assume a woman without kids doesn't know what pregnancy is like.
There’s a girl at work who’s just announced that she’s pregnant and the office is understandably all a-flutter about how exciting it is. She and I are the only young women without kids at work. Today, as she ran to the washroom in a wave of morning sickness, a coworker leaned over to me and started talking about how she remembers being that sick when she was carrying her son and how “it’s hard to imagine how awful it feels when you haven’t been there” and how I “have that to look forward to someday”, blah blah blah.
I know what morning sickness feels like because I’ve been there. Recently. I miscarried on August 4th at 12 weeks. Thanks for rubbing it in and making me feel like the only barren, childless, woman in the office. I know she's have no way to know that, but maybe it’s better to just assume you have no idea whether or not someone has experienced pregnancy before you go rubbing salt in their wounds.
