26 M4F - The Hotel Manager: Just Another Ordinary Day!

As Evan tidied his desk, dressed in a navy blue blazer and switched the reception computer to standby he glanced at his watch "Wow is it that time already?" he wondered as he glanced out to see the sun setting over the mountain. Another day down, nearly. Of course every day was never truly over until he awoke the following morning when the new one began.

He had moved home about a year ago to take the reigns of the family hotel after the passing of his father. It had happened suddenly and Evan's life was turned upside down:

• Gone were his exciting, well paid job in the City where he was making a name for himself.
• Gone was his girlfriend.
• Gone were his friends, apart from the occasional visit.

His mother was Irish, his father American and as such he grew up across the Atlantic Ocean in Ireland until he was 16 before his family bought the hotel and transformed it. Evan had only spent two years here before leaving for university back in Ireland and traveling the world. Until that day when he got the phonecall. His sister 4 years younger was different, she was young enough to fit in and she stayed but never had the interest or application to run a business. Now she was your typical college girl rarely home leaving himself and his mother in a country that wasn't "home".

As it happened Evan actually settled into things well and brought his charm, flair and personal touch to the hotel. It was spring and soon business would pick up but the winter was tough. Most of his friends were staff or guys down the golf-club and usually found himself lounging around the hotel most nights.

Tonight was no different and he was dreaming about what he could pilfer from the kitchen before settling down in the bar with a drink. All guests had arrived, not that there was many. The night staff were in and the hotel had that quiet peaceful air about it that won it awards.

Just as Evan was closing up reception for the night he saw movement outside. Was it a car or person? It looked like a girl. He sat back into his chair and pretended to look busy.

It could be anyone really he thought and soon he would find out as the front door opened....
