Independence Day Resurgence (Spoilers)

It's been established in the first film (by the trapped alien in Area 51 no less) that the entire alien civilization ALL reside in the mothership travelling from planet to planet until a suitable planet is found to harvest its resources. By the second film they're now a hive structure with a queen (or possible queens) sprawled out across the galaxy, if not the universe. This was never established, mentioned or even hinted at in the first film.
