What is the Best textbook for the modern CFD user who Doesn't want to use FVM?
So last week there was a good discussion on the best textbooks for a modern, novice CFD user, and that post generated some good discussion. All of the recommendations there focused on some similar methods, primarily finite difference/volume methods with pressure/density based solvers, which I would characterise as the work-horse methods of CFD. I didn't get much notice when I posted this in that discussion, probably cause I was late to the party, but I'd still really like an answer.
I imagine many CFD users are like me, in that they have had varying amounts of training both formally in informally, which primarily focused on those methods but almost completely ignored the alternative methods one could use to solve fluid problems. When I say alternative, I primarily mean methods like Lattice-Boltzmann, discrete vortexes, or smooth particle hydrodynamics, but you could probably stretch that to also include finite element based methods as well. Its possible there are others that I have missed in that list as well. Other then FEM, I am almost entirely ignorant of what those methods do, how to code them, or when they might be useful. No office I have worked in or university I have studied at has used them. What would be the best textbooks, online tutorials, or other resources that one could use to self-teach some of these CFD methods, either with or without a good working knowledge of FVM methods?
