5 shooters you should give a shot

Discussion

Retrohot - The indie game Superhot has gotten alot of love, because of the mechanics. Basicly, the time moves when you do. Alot of bullet dodging, head shots, and second attempts. Well, Lunar Labs made a game based on the same mechanics, but in Wolfenstein 3D style. Raycasting is hip again! The game is free, for Mac and Windows.

Vanquish - This game isn't new, as the Steam page may imply. After 3 years in development by Platinum games it came out as a console exclusive in 2010. This year, our beloved platform got it, via the Steam store. For 20 euro, 15 euro on sale, you get a copy of the game without framecap, extra resolutions, flawless controller support via Steam big picture, and all the DLC included.

Dino D-Day - There is a lot of choice when you want a WW2 shooter, from the older ones like Day of Defeat(: Source) and Brotherhood in Arms: D-Day, to the newer ones like Verdun, and Day of Infamy. However, this game has a slight difference: it features dino's. Running on the Source engine, it is pretty and optimised really well. You might know it as a HL2 mod, but the game is now standalone. This game is multiplayer only, and has one DLC many, including me, haven't tried yet, because the playerbase for it is almost non-existing. The game only costs 1 euro on sale via Steam. The fact that it is so unbelievably cheap when you buy at the right time, and is easy to learn, makes it a great LAN-party game.

Wolfenstein 2009 - Also set in a WW2 theme, Wolfenstein 2009 is a nice shooter. Lots of people think it isn't as good as the other games, but I think that isn't accurate. While not as good the New Order, it holds up good 8 years after it's release. It has satisfying gunplay, and it features alot of creative weapons. Sadly, it got taken of Steam, and if you ask me this is really anti-consumer. But the legal stuff is so complicated you can't just out it in Steam again: it was developed by Raven and ID and published by Activision, who owns Raven. Bethesda now owns Wolfenstein and ID, so god save the judge who is gonna fix that shit. Don't be afraid to download this game without paying, as you can't buy it new anymore unless you find a second-hand copy on eBay.

Soldat - Soldat is a very simple game, still in development. The delopment is a bit stuck, but feedback is always nice. It's free, and the devs are very easily reachable via Discord. It's viewed from the side, in 2D.
