[NEWBIE] Help choosing a beginner guitar!

Hey guys,

For someone who was once upon a time a semi-decent player (acoustic only), what would be a good electric guitar to pick up in the 250€ price range to make the transition?

I've been shopping around and two I've seen in local stores that seem promising are the Squier Affinity Tele (180€) and the Epiphone Slash Les Paul (240€). Anybody have any suggestions they think should be in the running at this price point?

For a music reference, looking to play stuff in a similar vein to Portugal the Man, Franz Ferdinand, Muse, and The Killers.
