The Problem with the new Multitool Visor Upgrades

Discussion

I enjoy the zoology aspect of the game a lot; I've spent most of my time in the game exploring and cataloging the various fauna on planets.

In patch 1.3.2, the visor upgrades introduced recieved a massive buff. For reference, with just Sigma and Tau, I can get 50k units per creature scan. This is great in that it makes zoology a viable way to earn units.

However, the big problem is with exploration. Before the update, the main source of units was the bonus for scanning all lifeforms. Of course, this was still quite small for the time that it took to get all of them.

However, while the units per individual scan has been increased, the overall bonus remains the same -- this means that completing a planet isn't just unimportant, it's in some ways illogical.

As you scan each creature, the likelyhood of finding a new one decreases. This means that it's much more profitable to land, scan as many creatures as you can, and leave, instead of trying to find all of them.

I feel this goes against the spirit of zoology in the game -- scientists don't just find a handful of creatures in a habitat, say they're done, and leave; they take the time to learn as much as they can about the environment. While the player can still do this, the game isn't really encouraging that as much anymore.

So, what's the solution? Ideally, the easiest one would be to make the 100% bonus scale along with the upgrades. However, along with the amount of units you now recieve, this might make it TOO profitable.

Another would be to simply remove the bonus, and make the value of successive scans increase on a planet (For example, each scan could be twice the value of the previous one, but with a lower starting unit point).

Overall this is a promising change -- Zoology seems to have been finally made as viable as other ways of making units. I just feel that there needs to be more of an incentive to complete a planet, rather than getting half the creatures and moving on.
