[OC] JaguarGator9's Weird Stat Thread- Little League World Series Edition
August is upon us. As summer winds to an end, this means that preseason football is here. And with the start of preseason football comes baseball… Little League baseball. I’ve done Weird Stat Threads for a few other events (and I’ll compile a thread where I predict the season based off of all of the Weird Stat Threads and what actually happens), and now, it’s time to do it based off of the Little League World Series.
I’ve done it with European song competitions. I’ve done it with horses. Now, I’m giving you the secrets to the upcoming NFL season based off of how ten year olds play baseball, even if they don’t want to be there. Note that everything in this thread can happen this year (so I’m not going to be doing anything on what happens when a New York team wins the LLWS, since a New York team is not playing).
With the 2017 Little League World Series upon us, how can this tournament impact the upcoming NFL season? Let’s take a look.
-
Connecticut has won the Little League World Series four times (1951, 1952, 1965, 1989). All four times, the Cleveland Browns won their division. No, that is not a typo. In 1951 and 1952, the Cleveland Browns finished with the best record in the American Conference, going 11-1 in 1951 and 8-4 in 1952. In 1965, the Browns finished with the best record in the Eastern Conference, going 11-3. And, in 1989, the Browns finished with the best record in the AFC Central, going 9-6-1. Connecticut is playing in the LLWS this year, so if you’re a Browns fan, you know who you have to be rooting for.
-
Mexico has won the Little League World Series three times (1957, 1958, 1997). All three times, the Cardinals finished with the worst record in their conference. In 1957, the Chicago Cardinals went 3-9, which was worst in the Eastern Conference. In 1958, the Chicago Cardinals went 2-9-1, which was tied with the Philadelphia Eagles for the worst record in the Eastern Conference. And, in 1997, the Arizona Cardinals went 4-12, which was tied with the Chicago Bears for the worst record in the NFC. Mexico receives a spot in the LLWS every year.
-
South Korea has won the Little League World Series three times (1984, 1985, 2014). All three times, the #3 seed in the AFC came out of the AFC North/Central. In 1984, the Steelers got the #3 seed by winning the AFC Central at 9-7. In 1985, the Browns got the #3 seed by winning the AFC Central at 8-8. And, in 2014, the Steelers got the #3 seed by winning the AFC North at 11-5.

South Korea has won the Little League World Series three times (1984, 1985, 2014). All three times, the #1 seed in the NFC was the one that made it to the Super Bowl. San Francisco had the #1 seed in 1984 and made it to Super Bowl XIX, Chicago had the #1 seed in 1985 and made it to Super Bowl XX, and Seattle had the #1 seed in 2014 and made it to Super Bowl XLIX.
-
White Rock South Surrey Little League (British Columbia) has represented Canada in the Little League World Series three times, excluding this year (2007, 2008, 2015). All three times, the team with the most recent Super Bowl or NFL Championship loss was the one that ended up winning the Super Bowl.
| Year | Super Bowl | SB Winner | Most Recent Loss | SB Loser | Most Recent Loss |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2007 | XLII | NY Giants | XXXV (2000) | New England | XXXI (1996) |
| 2008 | XLIII | Pittsburgh | XXX (1995) | Arizona | 1948 (Chicago Cardinals) |
| 2015 | 50 | Denver | XLVIII (2013) | Carolina | XXXVIII (2003) |
This year, White Rock South Surrey LL is representing Canada for the fourth time. Know where to place your Super Bowl bets.
- Since the Caribbean received its own spot in the Little League World Series in 2001, Los Bravos de Potezuela Little League has represented the Dominican Republic in the Caribbean Little League Region Tournament three times, excluding this year (2008, 2009, 2015). All three times, the Super Bowl champion was the team playing in a stadium from the opposing conference.
| Year | Super Bowl | SB Winner | Host Stadium | Host Team |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2008 | XLIII | Pittsburgh Steelers (AFC) | Raymond James Stadium | Tampa Bay Buccaneers (NFC) |
| 2009 | XLIV | New Orleans Saints (NFC) | Sun Life Stadium | Miami Dolphins (AFC) |
| 2015 | 50 | Denver Broncos (AFC) | Levi’s Stadium | San Francisco 49ers (NFC) |
This year, Los Bravos de Potezuela Little League not only represented the Dominican Republic in that region’s tournament, but made it to the Little League World Series for the second time ever. That means that, if the Weird Stat Thread holds up, that an AFC team will win the Super Bowl this year, since the game is being played at the home stadium of the Minnesota Vikings.
-
Mexico has finished as the runner-up in the Little League World Series three times (1964, 1985, 2008). All three times, the Chargers finished the season with 8 wins. In 1964, the San Diego Chargers went 8-5-1 in the AFL Western Division, and in 1985 and 2008, they went 8-8 in the AFC West.
-
South Dakota has made it to the Little League World Series three times, excluding this year (2008, 2011, 2014). All three times, both Baltimore and Pittsburgh made the postseason. Additionally, all three times, the Ravens won at least 1 playoff game, and had to eventually face the #1 seed on the road (Tennessee in 2008, New England in 2011 and 2014). This year, Sioux Falls Little League won the Midwest Region, so if Ravens fans are looking for luck this year, they know who to root for.
-
North Carolina has made it to the Little League World Series three times, excluding this year (1998, 2002, 2004). All three times, the New York Jets made the playoffs. The Jets went 12-4 in 1998, went 9-7 in 2002, and went 10-6 in 2004. Even though North Carolina made the LLWS this year, I’ve got a pretty good feeling that this streak is going to come to an end this year. Also, the Packers made the playoffs all three times (11-5 in 1998, 12-4 in 2002, 10-6 in 2004), but that feels like using the free space in BINGO.

North Carolina has made it to the Little League World Series three times, excluding this year (1998, 2002, 2004). All three times, the #1 and #2 seeds made it to the conference championship, and the Super Bowl was played between a #1 seed and a #2 seed.
| Year | AFC Teams | NFC Teams | Super Bowl Matchup |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1998 | (1) Denver, (2) NY Jets | (1) Minnesota, (2) Atlanta | (A1) Denver vs. (N2) Atlanta |
| 2002 | (1) Oakland, (2) Tennessee | (1) Philadelphia, (2) Tampa Bay | (A1) Oakland vs. (N2) Tampa Bay |
| 2004 | (1) Pittsburgh, (2) New England | (1) Philadelphia, (2) Atlanta | (A2) New England vs. (N1) Philadelphia |
The Little League World Series is pretty much giving you everything you need to know for how to fill out your conference championship and Super Bowl predictions.

Texas East has made it to the Little League World Series five times, excluding this year (2003, 2004, 2010, 2014, 2015). All five times, the Patriots made the playoffs. Insert “free space in BINGO” comment here.

The championship game of the Little League World Series has gone into extra innings four times (1971, 1979, 2005, 2007). All four times, a linebacker won Defensive Rookie of the Year. Isiah Robertson won it in 1971 for the Rams, Jim Haslett won it in 1979 for the Bills, Shawne Merriman won it in 2005 for the Chargers, and Patrick Willis won it in 2007 for the 49ers. If the championship goes into extra innings, place your money for DROY on Reuben Foster.
-
The championship game of the Little League World Series has ended in a mercy rule three times (1995, 1996, 2012). All three times, the #1 seed in the AFC came out of the AFC West with a 13-3 record, but did not win a single playoff game. In 1995, the Chiefs went 13-3, but lost to the Colts in the divisional round. In 1996, the Broncos went 13-3, but lost to the Jaguars in the divisional round. And, in 2012, the Broncos went 13-3, but lost to the Ravens in the divisional round.

The championship game of the Little League World Series has ended in a mercy rule three times (1995, 1996, 2012). All three times, not only did the Green Bay Packers win their division, but the San Francisco 49ers also made the playoffs. The Packers won the NFC Central in 1995 with an 11-5 record, then won it in 1996 with a 13-3 record, and then won the NFC North in 2012 with an 11-5 record. As for the 49ers, they made the playoffs in 1995 (11-5), 1996 (12-4), and 2012 (11-4-1). If you are a fan of the Packers or the 49ers, you want the championship game consisting of a bunch of 10-year olds playing baseball to, essentially, end in a bloodbath.

New Jersey has lost in the championship game of the Little League World Series three times (1955, 1956, 1966). All three times, the New York Giants ended up tying a game in the regular season; the Giants went 6-5-1 in 1955, 8-3-1 in 1956, and 1-12-1 in 1966. The Giants have tied exactly 1 game since 1984 (a 1997 game on MNF to Washington), so if New Jersey loses in the championship and the Giants tie a game, I’ll be convinced in the craziness of the Weird Stat Thread.

A Texas team has lost in the championship game of the Little League World Series five times (1951, 1960, 1961, 1995, 2000). I’m going to exclude 1951 from this, because the American Football League did not exist yet; in the AFL era, this has happened 4 times. All four times, the AFC/AFL West team to make the playoffs with the worst record, whether they were the division winner or a wild card, did not win a game. In 1960, the Chargers made it out of the AFL West, but lost the title game to the Oilers. In 1961, the same thing happened. In 1995, the worst team in the playoffs in the AFC West was the Chargers (9-7 record), and they lost in the first round to the Colts. And, in 2000, the worst team in the playoffs in the AFC West was the Broncos (11-5 record), and they lost in the first round to the Ravens. TL;DR- if a wild card AFC West team makes it, they’ll lose immediately. If the only AFC West team is the division winner, they’ll lose immediately.

South Korea has made it to the championship game of the Little League World Series four times (1984, 1985, 2014, 2016). All four times, an AFC East team made the Super Bowl, with the Dolphins making it in 1984 and the Patriots making it all three times after that. Additionally, all four times, the AFC North/Central winner received the #3 seed in the AFC, with the Steelers doing this in 1984, 2014, and 2016, while the Browns did this in 1985.

A Caribbean island has made it to the championship game of the Little League World Series three times: 1983 with the Dominican Republic, and 2004 and 2005 with Curacao. This year, the Caribbean representative comes out of the Dominican Republic. All three times (1983, 2004, 2005), the Buffalo Bills finished third in the AFC East, going 8-8 in 1983, 9-7 in 2004, and 5-11 in 2005.

A Caribbean island has made it to the championship game of the Little League World Series three times (1983, 2004, 2005). All three times, the Denver Broncos made the playoffs, doing so as a wild card in 1983 and 2004, and winning the AFC West in 2005. Additionally, all three times, the Rams finished second in the NFC West, going 9-7 in 1983, 8-8 in 2004, and 6-10 in 2005.
-
Finally, a Caribbean island has made it to the championship game of the Little League World Series (1983, 2004, 2005). All three times, the AFC team won the Super Bowl against the #1 seed in the NFC. In 1983, the LA Raiders won over #1 seed Washington, while in 2004, New England won over #1 seed Philadelphia, and in 2005, Pittsburgh won over #1 seed Seattle. If you need any more help filling out your playoff bracket, should the Dominican Republic make it to the final, the #5 seed in the NFC always defeated the #4 seed in the wild card round; it happened in 1983 when the fifth seeded Rams defeated the fourth seeded Cowboys, it happened in 2004 when the fifth seeded Rams defeated the fourth seeded Seahawks, and it happened in 2005 when the fifth seeded Panthers defeated the fourth seeded Giants.
