Experienced players: do you recommend the game in its current state?

On the surface, Fortnite looks like the kind of game that I would enjoy quite a bit. However, I'm reading some drastically differing opinions on whether or not Fortnite is actually worthwhile.

What would you tell someone who's looking at this with interest, but is concerned about it in the long term? Are the issues likely to be fixed through community input, or do you expect that the game will stay the same or get worse?

I'd like to avoid wasted time and money, both for myself and my friends, and I would greatly appreciate your opinions.

EDIT: Also, if you do recommend it, which edition is the best value?
