You are not your mind or body.

A lot of people here talk about how you're not your urges and you can beat them by discipline and practice and I wanted to give a perspective on that.

I've been getting really into mindfulness meditation lately which essentially helps you realize that you are not your thoughts, you are not your body, and in the case of nofap - you are not your urges and the part of the brain that is craving PMO does not define you.

In meditation a lot of people even refer to your mind and body as "the mind" and "the body" just to disassociate ourselves from those things. We all get uncomfortable feelings or urges in the body or the rationalizations in the mind like "You've been doing so well. It's okay to masturbate a little and just enjoy yourself" or "Porn wasn't really that bad anyway. You can go back to it and still feel good."

These really are just thoughts and feelings that we can watch and push away. I've been struggling with nofap for years and I think only with meditation am I really gaining the self-control to actually beat this. Instead of beating myself up for getting urges or having certain thoughts I'm so much more able to just watch them and let them go.

And once the urges are gone, I feel even better and more happier and more disciplined than I was before and I know deep down in the end that it's better to let those feelings pass and not get swept away in them.
