Magazine Size and Reload Speed

Discussion

Both the Magazine Size and Reload Speed bonus provide seemingly different advantages but in fact, the end results are identical. Mag Size gives you a longer gap between reloads while Reload Speed makes sure that your downtime is as small as possible. You can see a slight relation already but I want to show that the only real difference is personal preference or playstyle.

The equations for each bonus are rather simplistic so I will also be going over how long it takes to go through X ammo (nicknamed burn time). Mag Size is a simple as you just multiply the base by the bonus given plus 1 (base*(1+bonus)). Reload Speed is the same but instead of multiplying you will now divide the bonus (base/(1+bonus)). The final formula is burn time. To find this all you need is the time it takes to go through a single mag multiplied by how many mags you get in X ammo ((mag/rof+R.speed)*(1000/mag)).

To show that these bonuses give the same result, I will be using three Siegebreakers; a base, a 30% mag bonus, and a 30% reload bonus. Using the formulas above and the stats of a Siegbreaker, here are the three results.

  • Base: ((30/12+2.3)*(1000/30))= 160s
  • Mag: ((39/12+2.3)*(1000/39))= 142.3s
  • Reload: ((30/12+2.3/1.3)*(1000/30))= 142.3s

The two give the exact same results even if you change the amount of ammo to burn through. At the end of the day, if you have two weapons with differing bonuses pick the bonus you feel fits you better. Personally, I prefer Mag Size as I dislike the downtime popping up every so often.

TL;DR

Magazine Size and Reload Speed give the same result but offer different playstyles. Mag Size gives fewer reload gaps while Reload Speed makes the gaps shorter. Some weapons favour a bonus over the other (IE: Rocket Lawnchairs) but outside of those there is little difference.
