What do we do?
Ok, first off... Not sure if this is the best place for a question like this, but I hope one or two of you awesome folks out there can provide some guidance and maybe some pace of mind.
My mother in law has M.S., we have known for a while. She has been taking various medications four years to deal with the symptoms. A few (6/7) years ago she had a mental breakdown and lost touch with reality for a few days... She recovered from that and her medications adjusted. Since then, she divorced her husband and moved to our town, so we could assist with her and her increasing needs. She has been completely independent and doing well since she has been here (~8mos) we have helped her get establish with all new doctors...almost... And we were starting to feel like things were going well. And then Friday happened... She had a complete separation from reality, auditory and visual hallucinations, panic... We get a call from the sheriff's office that they are at her house and the ambulance is going to take her to a rehab facility. (She called 911 because people were coming out of the floor and garbage can to torture her) She has gone through a mild detox, she hasn't been on any pain meds or really anything since then. They recommended just having her in Xanax until her neurologist appointment Monday. But she still has a real loose grip on reality, she is constantly picking and seeing things. She cannot speak clearly, or keep a coherent thought.
Has anyone experienced anything liked this, can we reasonably expect this to resolve. What if it doesn't?
