Moto G5+ (retus) Camera crapping out

For the past few weeks I've been seeing some annoying behavior from the camera which seems to be getting worse over time. I don't remember having problems when the phone was brand new, but at some point I started having the camera app crash about every other time I opened it. I could then just re-open it and it would come up quickly and work just fine. For the past couple of days though I've started to see it take longer to start the app, before it even gets to the crash, and sometimes now the next time I try to restart it it craps out again, so I have to try opening the app at least 3 times before I can get to a working camera.

Last night, the Barcode Scanner app (I don't use it often) did the same thing, which seems to indicate it's not the Camera app itself, it's something with the camera hardware or the camera api in Android.

It's getting really frustrating... After having a Moto G2 for way too long, I bought this phone and for a while I finally had a phone that could quickly open the camera so I could get a quick picture of my kids doing something cute... Now I'm starting to miss those shots again.

The only thing I've done to this phone that's any kind of mod or anything was to use the Night Mode Enabler app... But after having issues with that functionality, I turned off Night Mode, disabled automatic switching, and removed the Enabler app.

Everything else on this phone is as Lenovorola intended it, with just normal apps running.

Any ideas?
