No, That's Not How You 3-way Call.
Office Operations
We have the office divided up into three different departments. Dispatch is the front-liners, and we filter out all the quick-kill type tickets or stuff we can do remotely. Anything that requires an on-site visit or would take too long we hand over to the Fields Techs. Both Dispatch and Field Techs are also assigned clients that we interact with one-on-one as the "face" of the company. This also means we know the in's and out's of the client both regarding the tech and the people at the organization.
Today, I pulled a fail worthy of being labeled a User...
$ExtD: Co-Dispatcher. For all intents and purposes, my work wife.
$GreyBeard: Field Tech that's been in the industry for a while. Our office go-to for "I remember back in that day...". Note, that his beard still has some red to it.
$Savy: Yours truly, also avid fan of lemonade.
I make it back to my desk and continue slurping away at my almost empty lemonade cup
$ExtD: So, we had this weird ticket come in from $CharityOrg.
$Savy: (already knowing the details of the ticket from the notification on my phone) Was it $OpsDir wanting access to $OpsMgr's calendar and Outlook task?
$ExtD: $OpsDir was needing access to $OprMgr's calendar and Outlook tasks.
$Savy: (Echo?) Well, are we allowed to grant $OpsDir access to $OpsMgr's stuff without checking in with $OpsMgr?
$ExtD: Is $OpsDir superior to $OpsMgr, or is $OpsMgr superior to $OpsDir?
$Savy: I dunno (checks help desk for potential notes to no avail). Hold on let me ask someone who would know.
I dial up $GreyBeard and put him on speaker so that $ExtD and I can both hear the conversation since $CharityOrg is his client, and he would know the hierarchy.
Ring ring.....Ring ring......Ring ring....
$ExtD: Umm, $Savy, why are you trying to call $GreyBeard?
$Savy: Wha? He would-
At this point I turn around and notice that $ExtD is wearing her bluetooth headset and had been on the phone with $GreyBeard this whole time. So, while I thought I was having a one-on-one conversation with her, she was actually having a one-on-one with $GreyBeard.
Side Note
$GreyBeard came back to the office later that afternoon and told me that he could hear me talking in the background the whole time while on the phone with $ExtD. So he was thoroughly confused when I was trying to call him.
TL;DR: You ever have that moment when you're out in a crowd, and you think someone waves at you but they were waving at someone else behind you?
