Tog-of-bog

My brother was recently diagnosed with clinical depression.

This Sunday he went into a behavioral crisis center because he was suicidal. We didn't know how he was feeling. He hid behind smiles and jokes. The good news is that he seems to be being honest about how he interprets the world, rather than pretending to be ok, which is at least something to work with.

I know some tricks on how to improve mental health and positivity, and I wrote him a list of small things to do every day; but he told me that he wasn't going to do any of the things on the list.

We have been very close, but yesterday when I tried to call him he shut me out.

I have been leaving voicemails and texts for him everyday telling him that I love him and that his life has value and that I'm happy that he's here today, but other than that I don't know what to do.

We don't live together, in 23 and he's 19 and living at home. While I'm not far away I feel absolutely useless.

Every time I have suggested a positive outlook he shoots it down and reveals a materialistic and apathetic counterpoint(they are never arguments that I agree with but he believes them completely). This darkness in him has been poisoning his mind for a long time.

I don't know how to save someone who doesn't want to talk to me, and who doesn't seem to want to be saved. What do I do?
