Locked bios and mem is BS
Even though AMD products can be hit or miss (bulldozer), I've always liked that they are the tinkerer's choice, with a wide range of overclocking friendly parts for a reasonable price, and allowing GPU overclocking that isn't offset based like nvidia.
I believe that overclocking, bios modding, power modding etc is like tuning a car on the cheap: the satisfaction of extracting hidden performance is addictive even though it might not be noticeable in realistic usage, or worth the extra power consumption/shortened lifespan from a purely rational viewpoint.
This is why I'm disgusted at how locked down Vega is compared to Polaris. Not only is Vega shitty value compared to the competition, but it's made even worse by this anti-enthusiast move, which goes against what has been the company ethos for the past 10 years or more.
I don't care that much about Vega doesn't beat the 1080ti. I already have one of those, but I'd still buy a Vega just to fuck around with it, if it wasnt so damn restricted.
smh.
